To cut up credit cards or not?
Discussion
I’ve had my AMEX for over a decade. Originally started out to accrue air miles/points when I was travelling (doctors without borders). I haven’t been on a flight as a GP for volunteering in over two years. I have my other bank cards and healthy savings so don’t see the need of the AMEX but may be just keeping the one credit card.
I would lose all my points but I am not too bothered.
Is it worth hanging on to?
Sounds like a first world problem I know. Sorry.

Surely you can use your points for something ! I know I can use my Amex points for many things other than flights. I will keep mine for travel insurance etc. In fact paid for flights and hotels in Barcelona this coming Thursday for 11 nights . Got four seats for USA on hold, paid for on points. I would lose all my points but I am not too bothered.

i guess it depends on your card and the fee ! Due to travel restrictions got given around 80% credit back for ( goodies)

If its Amex MR points then transfer to BA avios at 1:1 then transfer from BA to nectar at 1 avios to 1.6 nectar. You can then redeem at Sainsbury’s, Argos or Ebay so should be able to find a use for them.
Don't transfer straight from Amex MR to nectar
Wow thanks great tip, I hadn't realised that was possible, and am now starting to convert mine over to nectar, 50,000 Avios per month allowed! As others I'm not flying as much now so much more use in Argos etc.Don't transfer straight from Amex MR to nectar
This is awesome news - I also had no idea you could convert Avios to Nectar. I have just under 270,000 of the things, never spent a single one. I started collecting almost by accident when using bmi regularly to fly from Heathrow to Edinburgh for a while, just thought I might as well collect the reward points for it. That then became a bmi credit card, then when bmi went under everything shifted over to BA and Amex, and here we are 15 years later... I haven't done anything deliberate to earn extra points, it's all from ordinary spending.
If it's 1.6 Nectar for each Avios, that's worth 432,000 Nectar points. It seems that 500 is worth £2.50 for spending at Sainsburys, Argos, or eBay - so that's over 2 grand sitting there which I had no idea I had!
