What is current tenant notice period?

Hi

It used to be type hat if a tenant gave a month's notice, the month's notice would-be at least a full rental period.

Ie
Start date the 20th.
Notice given 5 October.
Then tenant leaves 20 november.

Is that still the case?

No, a months notice is a months notice, i.e a month after you give notice regardless of the date the agreement started (assuming you are on a rolling monthly periodic agreement)

The last time we rented the agent tried the same thing as we gave notice two days after our rent was taken, they wanted two months notice minus two days as we had missed the "full months" notice. In the end after I explained this wasn't the case we ended up just paying two more days rent at the end.

In my experience some agencies use their own interpretation of the law which is often very incorrect.

My tenants had to give their months notice on or before the monthly rent due date. That’s what the contract said. If I wanted to serve notice, I had to give 2 months. All perfectly fair and reasonable.
