Exporting services outside the UK - tax position.
Discussion
Hi.
I run an SME based in the Uk exporting services, no exchange of physical goods. We have a project in Ireland and a potential project in Australia.
Our accountant isn't very knowledgeable and the HMRC website is a mess but we need some advice on our tax position. We understand we don't charge UK VAT but how do we then list that in our quarterly submissions? Export tariffs in the UK and/or import tariffs in other countries? Who has to do what?
Just looking to understand the basics at this point, if it gets complicated then we are happy to pay someone for services to assist.
Thanks.

I don't know what the answer to your question is, but neither does your accountant, so in your shoes I'd be getting a new accountant that better suits your needs.
Yeah, we have just asked the accountant if they have someone or can recommend someone, if not I think we will need to change. Any recommendations? cramman said:

I'm not really sure what the problem is? As you rightly say no VAT is chargeable. On your VAT return you include the Net/Gross amount in Box 6.I run an SME based in the Uk exporting services, no exchange of physical goods. We have a project in Ireland and a potential project in Australia.

Yeah, chartered accountants firm but I don't they do much international work. Spoken to a contact at the DIT, VAT isn't the issue, like you say. More worried about other taxes we may be missing. Sounds like Australia is farily straight forward but Ireland needs a little more research. is your Accountant qualified (Chartered)?
Work in the UK is easy, quote + VAT, add it to Xero, invoice, get money pay VAT. Exporting internationally is new to us, just trying to work out if the qoute is quote + export tariffs etc.
