If you had some cash sat there not doing anything.......

They say a fool and their money are soon parted.
Well, I'm definitely an idiot. Fool? not sure.
What I know about investment you can write on a stamp with room to spare, so I thought I'd poll opinions on a car forum!!
I've got few grand sat spare in an account not doing anything. TBH if it stays there, I'll waste it on stupid stuff out of boredom. Little point in putting it in a savings account or ISA as they're rewarding next to nothing.
I was toying with a bit of gold (or more realistically, silver) as it seems quite a safe investment.
What other things offer some type of return? Not after a get rich quick option. Happy for the longer game.
The ultimate goal is to get into JVs (joint ventures) and get my money to work for me, but realistically that'll be a while yet.
So, suggestions?
And "s0d off" is acceptable

Start with Monevator, pretty much anything from Lars Kroijer (good set of videos on Youtube) and the Vanguard Investor website.

Also look at the Intelligent Money threads on here as they could be worth a look if you don't want to do too much of the hard work yourself.
It's not rocket science but if you've never read/seen any of it it can take a while to get your head around.
I don't know the amount you're talking about but let's assume you put £1000 into "something" and you see it losing money.
It might and probably will come back over time but you don't know if it will and over how long.
You might think "great I can buy more now it's cheaper" but you also need to ask yourself if there's an amount at which you'd think "f
k that" and panic sell it?
Be honest about it
That tends to focus the mind and there are lots of options between cash in the bank and a global tracker (100% stocks).

Make sure you're really prepared to see the value of your investment lose money (it should recover and increase with time but obviously this isn't guaranteed).
I'd say as long as the timeframe is long enough you cant lose on a global tracker. Unless capitalism implodes this sh*t should still keep on truckin' upwards. Make sure you're really prepared to see the value of your investment lose money (it should recover and increase with time but obviously this isn't guaranteed).
Me,and i am a gambler with regards to investments.
Stocks & Shares - Primarily US tech but also good global recurring revenue or "Saas" businesses.
Crypto - Pull up a chair and dive with a bit of a dabble. My teenage son thinks he will be a billionaire by Xmas as the £200 he earned casual labouring over the summer has doubled on something called "Cardano"

….metals are volatile & probably not a great investment as the only part of your portfolio.Make sure you're really prepared to see the value of your investment lose money (it should recover and increase with time but obviously this isn't guaranteed).
Stock markets are overdue a correction, so if you are in for th education it needn’t be a problem, But how would you feel if you invested one day & lost a third or more of the value the next day?
Remember you can overthink it too.
Opening a Vanguard account and either sticking some in a global index fund or a LifeStrategy fund that's at a level of risk you're comfortable with are pretty sensible low cost options and they're likely to be there or there abouts if you don't want to spend too much time thinking or monitoring whatever you invest in.

That seems remarkably definite. How do you know?
To be honest if there was a simple way to buy that didn't involve giving shady companies my personal details I could be tempted but I think people have to be very clear if they want to gamble or invest.Crypto isn't investing IMO.
If you're in for the long game just buy this and forget about it >>> https://www.vanguardinvestor.co.uk/investments/van...

If I could make head or tail of crypto I might put a few K in just for a laugh, but it may as well be Mornington Crescent to me. With a strong hint of tulips.
I missed out on the Daxci deal before it got put out there, and seemed an interesting punt, but TBH, I didn't know enough about it to throw money at it.
I don't profess to know much about that side and I'm more than happy to be a silent/back-seat investor
Oh and by "some cash", we're talking a nice holiday somewhere very hot, not Rolex-money
(although I did consider if I could find the cash, going "all in" for a watch of Rolex level, like a Batman or similar and sit on it for 12 months)

My confidence is based on the estimates put forward by a crypto analyst who has a decent rack record. He accurately predicted when the next upturn in bitcoin would take place after the crash a few months ago (although he was, admittedly, one week out!).He very briefly suggested a possible ATH of $300k. Also a big fan of Cardano.
https://www.youtube.com/c/JRNYCrypto/videos
(basically he correctly identified a pattern in the bitcoin chart called the Wyckoff Accumulation phase, and stated that strong growth would start to take place last two weeks of July p pretty much bang on. Another PHer who subscribed to his vids longer than I have said other predictions had also been accurate - yes I know, stopped watch, twice a day!).
