Newbie looking to get into share dealing
Discussion
I'm looking into buying shares for possibly short term as I've spotted a few companies that are on the rise and wanted to get in, then get out which could potentially be a few weeks time. Any recommendations? I've seen trading 212 being mentioned and Hargreaves Lansdown, are there any penalties for say 10k invested? any advice appreciated.
I use freetrade to play about a bit, its easy and quick to do and is a handy way of experimenting before sinking large sums in.
From experience its been less successful than Vanguard funds - as your portfolio is picked by you and of course, in my case quite often I back the wrong horse!

No experience of using T212 primarily because there's no way? of opting out of 'share lending',?
Your shares, which you hope will increase in value, could be used to 'short' a stock by people hoping it drops in value?
Also I'd be looking at the spread, speed of execution of deals?
I use HL been happy enough with the service

They can't lend out your isa shares just from the investing account.Your shares, which you hope will increase in value, could be used to 'short' a stock by people hoping it drops in value?

Trading212 is fine for playing but I wouldn't put serious investments through it.
Main benefit for me is no minimum order value, or at least there wasn't when I signed up, I think they may have introduced a token £50-100 to stop silly small trades. Most of my 'play' money is split into a few hundred into a lot of companies I like the look of for whatever reason.
Downside is trades can be very slow to execute when there is poor liquidity, or demand is outstripping supply. For instance the day WISE listed I couldn't get a trade to go through, I'm sure if I'd tried with HL or similar it would have done.
I think their spreads and forex rates aren't the best either, again on play money you're still better off than the dealing charges from the big names and I guess they've got to make some money somewhere!
Shares available to trade is fine if you want the big names, you might find obscure ones missing. List of funds is very limited, mainly a selection of Vanguard and iShares from memory.
If you want a referral that gets both of us a random free share drop me a PM.

Exactly from a stock of a company to cash in your account 3 days. No need to hold any real cash other than a safety net amount in a bank account getting 0.0000001% interest. Good to know if the car goes pop you can deal with it quickly.
Re the above post no real minimum i bought 1 share of yank stock earlier today for 6 dollars and have previously put through single share buys (reinvesting dividends) on uk stocks.
There is a minimum for the stocks at 0.267 p etc but its pennies tbh.
