Morning All

I bought a secondhand item online for £4K from a business and it has turned out to be significantly not as described.

The seller wanted bank transfer, but I insisted upon paying part by card to have the protection of S.75. He sent me a PayPal invoice.

I paid via PayPal, but using a credit card as opposed to via my PayPal account. I think I am right in saying that where PayPal is just the collection method and not actually the method of payment that S.75 still applies.

Can someone with good knowledge of the subject please confirm?

Nope think it doesn't apply:

Return and claim on PayPal.

Take lots and lots of photos, ensure correct delivery with photos.

DO EVERYTHING you can to ensure it makes it back!

Indirect payment method, I think you're a bit stuffed for S75 protection.

I would agree if I had used my PayPal account. However as far as I can see PayPal was acting a bit like WorldPay or similar in this transaction.

I didn’t use my PayPal account.

From Paypal's site:

You should note that PayPal’s service “Payments without a PayPal account” does not entitle you to the benefits of having a PayPal account. You will not be eligible to take advantage of our Buyer Protection Policy or any other benefits which we offer under the user agreement. You may have additional rights through your agreement with your credit or debit card issuer.

Which implies that I may be correct in my assumption.

Edited to add, I've just called Barclaycard and they too say I am covered.
