Bed and breakfasting / vanguard / tracking capital gains
Discussion
I am thinking about setting up a Vanguard general account to invest some extra money we have available. We already use the available allowances for pension, isa and our children's junior isa so this would be outside those tax-free wrappers.
From what I can see, we would need to try and utilise our annual capital gains allowance by crystallising any gain at the end of the tax year by selling the investment (assuming an increase in value) and then re-buying it for the new tax year. This could then be reported as necessary on our tax return.
Looking at this thread, to avoid the 30 day 'bed and breakfasting' rule, I would probably follow a similar idea i.e. If we had lifestrategy 80 initially, then we sell that and buy instead lifestrategy 100 and lifestrategy 60.

I'm imaging though after 2-3 years it might get a bit confusing to know how much to sell and what gain to report. So is there any software which is simple to use and which is suitable for a non-IFA, non-professional investor? I checked with Vanguard and they don't offer any software which could track this type of thing.
Interested in the experience of others who might have already come across this problem.
I've always used a spreadsheet for this, and don't most platforms track average purchase price which is what you need for reporting CGT?

You'll presumably sell 20 or 40 K in late March anyway to use ISA allowances?
