Congestion Charge and ULEZ

Good evening all

I’ve just picked up 12 months work in London. It’s within the congestion charge, and of course the ULEZ, which works out at £27.50 per day. I can back charge the congestion, but I’ll have to swallow the ULEZ.

The price of used euro 6 vans is ridiculous, and new vans are in such short supply, so I’d rather order something new for delivery late 2022, and just run my euro 5 van and suffer the cost, but I was having a few Moretti’s and wondered if I’d be able to claim the ULEZ back as an expense.

Anyone in the know? Can I claim back the ULEZ through the company?

Is it your company, or do you mean your client being the company?

The company is mine. The contractor I’m working with cover all expenses except the ULEZ.

If the ULEZ is something I can claim back, I’ll stick with my euro 5 van. If I can’t, I’ll buy another van to avoid paying it.

My own company pays for my ULEZ & CC charges, whenever I need to use my non-ULEZ compliant car to drive into the zone.

I've got autopay setup, which makes a direct debit payment once a month.

I work for multiple clients at a time, therefore my company is able to recharge some clients for the travelling costs, and not others. It all depends on what fees / costs have been agreed for any particular project.

why on earth would they do that, unless they are hoping we forget to pay and rack up more fees

I've just checked the TfL press release from yesterday, and the only thing changing with autopay is that the £1 discount is being removed.

In actual fact, I didn't even realise that there was a discount with autopay, and I have been using it for many years now,
