Self Assesment - Mileage claim
Discussion
Morning all.
This tax return is my first one when I have not had a fuel card and company car, I'm wanting to claim the difference of relief on the 9p I get and the 45p (I understand you don't get the full amount)
I only worked at the new place for March of the 20/21 tax year, I wanted to get it right for this submission even though minimal as next time it will be a full 12 months worth.
Question is what value do I put in the "Business Travel and Subsistence..." section.
Actual numbers below:
I did 387 miles in that tax year, I claimed £0.09 from my employer, so do I put in £139.32 which is 387 x £0.36 or do I work out the 40% of that.
Just want to make sure I'm correct as next time will be circa 6k miles.
Thanks

It's up to 13p now, not ideal, I'm on a manufacturer scheme so get a car through a weird ownership scheme that's quite cheap and in my name.
Ah, an ECOS type scheme. Yeah the joys of this are you get to use the personal rate rather than company car rates even though it's cheaper than having a company car. I miss my old ECOS scheme at a Mercedes retailer getting a C43 for £180 a month / GLE for £100 a month then getting paid 45p in fuel despite not having any running costs or keeping the car longer than 3-4 months.Dave350 said:

Yes, its ECOS so pay tax on the loan type arrangement not on the car so classed as me buying it.

IIRC when I did my claims (a few years ago now) I put in difference as a £ amount between the miles at 45p and whatever rate I was paid at - in the appropriate box. I may have put a note if the calculations as well so they could see the actual miles.Unfortunately they have changed the parameter from 6 months or 6k to 15k no time due to the semi conductor crisis, still better than 4 years and 120k I used to be on.
The resultant amount was then added to my Personal Allowance so if the difference was £1000, then I got £200 or £400 back depending on I looked at it!
