low to medium risk investment ideas?
Discussion
Hi All,
Looking for some straightforward advice or thoughts here please. My father passed away last April and I have inherited approx. 100k. I'd like to invest it with the objective of returning at least 5% P/A ideally low ish risk as I dont want to play with his money, and I am not an active investor that can buy and sell everyday. I was thinking a Vanguard product or similar. TIA.

Hello Hypermark. Investments don't work like deposit accounts. You might get 10% one year and -4% the next.
Rather than hoping for a consistent 5%pa I would choose something that suits the amount of risk you're prepared to take, and see how it goes, and 'harvest' it accordingly. Or, if you have adequate income from elsewhere, just leave it to grow. The more you have, the more that every percent growth is!

Given that inflation is now 5% and markets are looking v unstable any investment in the market involves real risk and most people will tell you that you need a min 5 - 10 years in the market
Something conservative would be say life strategy 60%
Alternatively have a look at dividend heroes if you are looking for a reliable return (Google for details)

Thanks for your replies so far....So I'm happy to keep the money invested for the long term, happy to invest in companies that give good dividends (and reinvest), and as mentioned it will need to be closer to 8% if I am to beat inflation. I appreciate that the market is unstable at the moment but holding cash must be the worst option.....any specific thoughts on some investing ideas?
