My wife and I max our private pensions and ISA’s . We have no mortgages either and as such have a surplus amount of cash to invest. I’m not too keen on doing BTL so was thinking of putting money into some sort of share portfolio to try to at least avoid inflation though i appreciate I’m taxed on it . Any other ideas and which is the best organization to buy shares ?

Thx

Nice place to be!

In my position (similar) and I have my SIPP and ISA with II, I've just piled into a standard trading account alongside. No extra fees, and swap stuff into SIPP/ISA whenever allowances permit.

I'd guess your SIPP provider would be a good starting point

You can start a taxable portfolio/General Investment account for you both to get you going and dependent on your broader position may be able to benefit from some / all of:

Capital Gains Exemption
Personal Allowance
Dividend Allowance
Personal Savings Allowance
(0 rage starting band)

Beyond this you may wish to get some advice on other tax wrappers.

Who are your ISAs and pensions with? They may offer GIAs too

I suggest you have some (or more) kids: they can help remove excess cash at an alarming rate, and over an extended period of time!

A good-sized boat will do that, and doesn't have to be taken to school or violin lessons.

I’m with SJP ( I did 9.9% from them last year and they did well throughout the start of covid for my wife and I ) . I was thinking of some kind of portfolio account where I can put it in something like what vanguard do with their block investment packages.
Will speak to the accountant and try to find the best firm to go with.
