Today I was checking my credit rating on a well known site and clicked on 'recent searches'. I was concerned to see that a company called Marshmallow FS Cosmos ltd had recently searched me. Their search was listed as being 'an identity check'.
This was a surprise to me as I have never heard of this company and had certainly never given them authority to do a credit check on me.
It seems that they are some form of online insurance company ,not UK registered.
Can anyone advise if it is legal to make a credit search on someone without their knowledge or consent.

Have you visited any online comparison sites for quotes lately? Most insurers will do behind the scenes checks these days

Thanks for reply.I had researched them and come to the same conclusion. The only thing is that ,whilst my insurance is due I have not bothered with any comparison sites so my details must be on file somewhere from last year.
