When completing ,my self assessment I enter my income and then in the next box I am asked to enter "UK tax taken off XXX pay". My question is should I enter the sum of the National Insurance Contributions for this Employment + Tax Deducted or only the income tax?

I'm hoping it's the former because if it's only the income tax then I don't see anywhere on the Self Assessment to enter my National Insurance Contributions.

No. You don't declare your NICs.

People under PAYE should ignore NI when calculating any self assessment tax.

People who are self employed sole traders or a partner in a partnership ignore NI at their peril.

On your P60 bottom left there is a big bold box with thick lines. In it it states total earned in this employment and directly under that is the total tax paid in this tax period.

It is a shame we cannot add the NI and income tax together I’d love that to be the case.
