Landlines and credit files...
Discussion
It used to be the case that a landline mattered to lenders and presumably therefore had some impact on credit files; I guess it's a good way of tying a person to a physical address.
I've had FTTP through Zen for several months and after a few initial stability issues it's now been rock solid for ages. I'd kept my old FTTC connection with Plusnet live as a 'fallback' for a while but am now happy that it can be cancelled and with that will go the landline number I've had for 17 years (but never used).
Will the absence of a landline number be detrimental to a credit file these days or do lenders no longer apply the same weight to it as they used to? I do have the option of adding a VOIP number to my Zen contract but it would mean paying £7/mo for something I know I'll never use.
Does a lack of landline matter any more? I'm in the process of considering a house purchase so anything that might ding a (perfect) credit score is something I'm keen to avoid in the short-term.

I remember it having some weighting and use back in 2010, a large part was using it in fraud investigation as BT phone book could be used as a way to verify an address and genuine applicant.
But haven’t seen it being used or at least having any significant weighting in the past ten years. There’s far more important, useful and smarter tech/data available that gets used instead.
I really wouldn’t worry about it.

BT are dropping the copper network and forcing people onto VOIP phones...
But the numbers will all port over and stay the same.Sounds like (rightly) it's not so much of an issue any more - especially as things like mobile contracts are linked to credit files as well.
