Question for the tax experts of PH.

I have a beneficial loan via my employer. Said loan isnt wholly beneficial, its split into three segments. Two of which are beneficial and one of which is not, its at the same rate as the public receive.

I've been getting absolutely battered with tax on this completely contrary to my employer's calculator for it.

My question is - should my employer be reporting the entire loan balance and entire interest, or should they be reporting on the preferential segments only, or doesnt it really matter?

And lastly, does anyone a link to a good tax calculator I can use to check this?

Assuming they're not exempt then the Employer needs to report them via P11d

I always used to update my tax coding for any preferential employer loan.

I thought the tax obligation was calculated versus the HMRC official rate rather that what your employer offers as part of its commercial offering to the public?

It should be but my concern is my employer is over stating the benefit.

A quick look suggests I'm paying roughly twice as much extra tax as was expected.

I think I'm going to have to do a long and manual calculation on this to find out where its going wrong...
