Earning your way out of the COL crisis

I reckon we’re around £500 a month worse off vs a year ago and I’d like to get that back. The obvious answer to earning more is either to work longer or harder at your current job, but I thought it’d be interesting to see what can be done outside of your day job - preferably from the comfort of my couch and iPad. What I’ve considered;

• Matched Betting - I did this quite a years ago and it was a fairly straightforward way of making a few hundred £ a month. I’ve exhausted all the main sign up offers though so the earning potential is more limited. If you haven’t done it before you should seriously look into it. Tax free too.

• Online surveys - Again, done these a few years ago and it’s a pretty mind numbing way to earn a few £. Pay generally doesn’t work out more than £8 an hour and surveys aren’t always available to do. I wasn’t very committed and never earned much more than £50 a month. One for the maybe pile.

• Amazon Flex - This is how I paid for my house deposit in my early 20s. It’s delivering Amazon parcels in your own vehicle. For the most part I actually really enjoyed it. Pay is usually around £15 an hour and it’s quite easy to be earning £200 a week by doing weekends and the odd evening. Of course, you can’t do it from home and you need to consider the cost of fuel, wear and tear to your car and if your car will even be suitable.

What are you doing to earn your way out of this crisis?

I didn’t used to get how it made money either with so much free porn available but I guess it’s for the same reason a 150k 911 gt3 is worth 250k or a 4K Rolex ‘hulk’ sub worth 25k

What's your personal tax position(s)?

If you're able to find an additional activity that can be conducted tax free it's massively easier to make £500 than if it's subject to Income Tax and NI. Even more so if the additional income would push you into a higher tax rate band.

I said this 18 months ago.

It’ll come full circle and people will be begging for any job.

And at that point those who took jobs and weren’t sts, will probably keep them, while those hawking around for maximum pay showing no loyalty will probably be the first to be dropped.

Well, the elephant in that room is that it's not a staff shortage but an excess of businesses that have grown on the back of easy credit and excess VC capital etc but for the time being the opportunity is there.
