This week, Paypal suspended the accounts of the website Daily Sceptic, and the Free Speech Union. They refused to say why, except they "violated (Paypal's) policies. These are not flat-earth tinfoil-hat nutters, they are serious journalists offering an alternative to the mainstream media. No laws have been broken.

So there you have it. Paypal opposes free speech. I get by without using Paypal, others may consider doing so as well. Especially if they start trawling through your past social media posts and find something they don't like.

Toby Young = serious journalist?

Righto.

I’m sure they’re free to use another payment platform or is it just about monetising from the gullible?

Just because they have closed down some accounts they are accused of opposing free speech? Any other news on this other than the article on the Sceptic website?

Always two sides to every story.

Yes - covered by GB News, which quoted the reply from Paypal.

How can they even do that, can't see they would have any access.

They can't with proper security settings. Then again even if they could, good look finding anything that would give them cause to want to stop my PayPal account.

We may be getting off the point.

There's a lot of cancel culture about at the moment. Are you happy for a bank to try to dictate what you should or shouldn't read? or think?

Cancel Culture doesn't exist. Paypal isn't a bank and companies are free to decide who they do business with.

Exactly. If cancel culture existed, all these right wingers on GB News wouldn't have a platform to whinge about cancel culture.

This is an interesting one.

Big tech refusing service because of what someone says is a line that has been crossed and we should be careful. i.e. we should think as to whether letting big tech be the arbiter on things like this is actually the world that we want.

Yes, it should (just about) be OK for a company to choose who they do business with, but when the likes of facebook, twitter, or now paypal get to be the judge and jury(often with no form of recourse) all the while promoting division themselves elsewhere, then I think something is wrong. It's arguably much worse than the traditional media outlets who wore their biases for all to see.

Unfortunately, a few pistonheaders boycotting paypal is completely pointless and won't have any effect whatsoever.
