Might have been missed by others but the mini budget has announced that this department will be closing.
Political meddling or sound reason?

The OTS had some good people at its head - John Whiting, Bill Dodwell - but it was never properly resourced, or for that matter, listened to very much. Its effect was ambient at best and it sounded good to have one.

Whether the shift from "this should be done" to "we should do this" makes a difference, remains to be seen. I doubt it.

I did mention it on one of the other threads on the budget that wasn't a budget.

Basically, it couldn't do its job because politicians continually meddle and mess about with tax for political purposes and they just couldn't keep up.

Disappeared in a puff of doing its job?
