Following submission of my last tax return I was due a refund.

Submitted the request for refund online and got a confirmation that it had been acknowledged. Reference number etc on the submission confirmation. It mentioned delays so I’ve not been in a rush to chase.

Realised today that it has been over 3 months since the refund request so chased HMRC for an update. Long story short they say that no refund request is showing. They wouldn’t process on the phone so I’ve submitted again online.

So questions

Has anyone else had this or is this just a blip for me? I ideally don’t want to go another month only to find out that it hasn’t submitted again

Anyone received self assessment tax refunds this year - any idea how long it is taking

Thanks

Multiple requests, online then telephone complaints. 6+ months for Mrs 22 to get hers.

Thanks for the response. Sounds like it’s-a good job I’m not desperate for the money smile

pre-covid was the last time I had one but pretty quick and painless directly into my bank was always the case.

For the last few years (six or more thinking about it) both myself and partner have been owed a refund.

Every one gone through when requested online and paid within a few days. This year mine -> bank, three days.

We're on the sixth attempt to get the missus money our. We apply online, doesn't happen, ring up, get told wait x weeks, hasn't happened, try again, ring, get told wait x weeks. On about attempt number 3 or 4 we were told it was because my wifes name on her bank account is longer than the character field so when and automatic fraud check takes place "the bank" can't process it as they don't have the full name and "they bank" reject the transaction.

She's set a new account up with another bank and if attempt number 6 doesn't work in the next few days we will try that instead

Thanks for the comments. Seems a mixed bag.

I’ve had refunds in the past returned quickly. They have been relatively small amounts (<£500). This refund is reasonably large so I had thought it may need extra checks but possibly just system issues.
