Apologies if this has been answered somewhere before.

If I have a Stocks and shares ISA with several constituent funds and I want to transfer to another provider. Can I simply transfer the funds I've put money into this year or do I have to transfer the whole lot?

It depends.

Some providers have rules around what you can and can't transfer and some will allow partial transfers and some won't.

The new provider also has to offer those funds, otherwise they'll have to be sold and transferred as cash.

This: In theory (the rules allow) you can transfer part of your existing ISA and in so doing you can transfer some or all or the underlying funds. But, ISA providers have their own terms around this so you'll have to do your homework I'm afraid.

That too right down to ensuring it's the same class of unit.

It can be really simple or a bit of a ballache if the stars don't quite align.

Dr Jekyll who are you with now and who do you want to move to and what are the funds?

Thanks everyone.

I'm with Virgin.
I was planning to switch to Barclays.
Barclays don't appear to accept transfers from any of my Virgin funds (mainly FTSE all share and Global share plus a few quid in the Bond and Gilt fund) so it's all academic.

That's annoying frown

If they're definitely Virgin's own funds I think you only have two options which are sell them yourself and transfer as cash or transfer but they'll get sold down to cash - with selling them yourself at least you know (roughly) when you're selling.

Do Virgin only offer their own funds? You couldn't switch into something else that Barclays or other platforms would accept?
