Is anyone else being forced through hoops to identify themselves before they can log in to their GG account? I've been using it for years & now it wants multiple layers of ID confirmation which is making me doubt if I'm signing in correctly - I've got three accounts for Pension, HMRC & the DVLA..

I just enter Gateway ID and password and then I get a six digit number texted to me that I have to key in.

I have three IDs (personal and two business) and they all work the same way for me.

Yes indeed, that's what I've always done in the past - code sent by SMS & straight in. Now it wants access to the Passport Office & the DVLC to check my identity.

Is it a cookie issue?

It seems not - it seems the system has lost my GG ID for the Pensions Service. I've checked the account number, email & password & when I try to log in I'm now getting a red "No Account" screen. I've filled out the Help fom but I'm not hopeful.

Maybe stating the obvious, but check and double check that you are on the right site and not some slight mis-spelling and a scam site collecting your personal data.

Got a letter saying they've over charged and owe me some tax back

Letter said go on govt gateway to get money straight away or wait 6 weeks for a cheque

Despite numerous attempts and putting drivers licence number, sms codes, social security number it still couldn't ID me and gave up

I also have the same for a repayment of overpaid tax. I tried 4 different combinations, of which none worked so I am having a self imposed 1 week cool off before I try again!

i dimly remember I had this last year with a filing. It's not the GG as such, it's that they've implemented extra checks when there is a payment to be made. I mean, it's almost like they're deliberately making it as hard as possible to get your money back.

I had to put in prior year tax info and current year income, or something equally odd. Sorry can't remember the exact process that finally got me in, but it involved stirring three toads anti-clockwise while hopping, that kind of thing. Google and you'll see lots of similar complaints and advice as to what combo of info to enter where.

And it's completely impossible if you aren't in the UK even if you have some of the ID they want. I've been trying to pay CGT and it's almost impossible, even with help from an advisor. I ended up calling them, waiting for 45 minutes and then begging them to send me paper forms to complete. They wanted my wife to call again separately for the same forms but eventually gave in. I don't understand the need to do all of this in this case. I'm paying them, I'm not trying to reduce anything or look at anything I just want to give them some cash. I'm sure Nadhim Zahawi didn't have these problems.

My accountant had to do the same for me when she did my tax return last year-they weren’t accepting driving licence details (except in Northern Ireland for some reason)then, only passport-don’t know what would have happened if I didn’t have a passport!
