Hello.

Is it possible to have an idea what credit limit you’re likely to have before applying for a particular card? I like the idea of buying a car using a 0% card (either balance transfer or purchase), and then paying off the required monthly repayment to clear the debt by the end of the 0% period so that I can keep money in investments longer. But I don’t want to apply, affect my credit score, and then discover afterwards that the limit is too low for what I’m considering (I’d need about £10k).

My score on ClearScore is 640/1000, which doesn’t sound that good, but we always pay off our credit card spending every month and the only debt we have is mortgage. Our household income and outgoings should provide reassurance to a bank that I’d be able to repay the debt.

Cheers.

Yes, MBNA will tell you how much you can get if you do a soft check, I think if you do it though clear score you can put in how much you want and it will list the companies and the limits

10k is quite high but I recently got 9600 from MBNA

Thanks for that, that was useful. Although I didn't realise that transfers attract a fee, so borrowing £10k at 0% is still costing £3-400.

I need to remortgage in November, so maybe a massive credit card debt isn't a great idea, no matter the reason why I've done it.
