Just got a letter from DWP. As I attain age 80 very soon, I will start to get an age-related addition to my State Basic Pensions. Wow, thank you DWP!

Oh, it's all of £0.25 per week. I think I'll save it up so that at the end of the year I'll have £13 to buy a can of Heinz Baked Beans.

Firstly, congratulations. Secondly, the cost of administering that 25p increase must be enourmous.

I wonder if it would be more cost effective to simply eradicate the entire DWP & pay everyone a flat rate pension.

That suggestion would be entirely compatible with the new GB where holding your hand out for others money and reward for not working is increasingly popular. To hell with it, lets go for universal salary ( paid in government digital currency of course )

Back in real world, my god the DWP are a bunch of F wits

Watching the head of MI5 on TV yesterday (I thought he was supposed to be a secret) confessing over the concert bombing, I did wonder if the relatives of the victims will now be suing MI5 for a few million. It seemed a very strange thing for a head of MI5 to do.

Over the past 30 years I've done various bits of IT work for the DWP. Honestly, they seem to be getting thicker year on year.

Wow!

An extra five bob a week for surviving until age 80, that will not buy me much gin.....

As I recall it was the embarrassment caused by a 25p a week increase in the state pension that gave rise to the triple lock.

Since then, the state pension hasn't risen by less than 2.5%.
