We have lived abroad and I have regularly worked in a third country so often end up filling in three different tax returns. We have both had to fill in a UK one for many years as we owned a house there and rented it out. Tax was rarely due, only in years when I worked a little in the UK. Now we've sold the house and have only a small amount of UK savings I would really like to stop filling them in and working out how many days I've been in various countries etc.

As we've been out of the UK we've always needed to do paper returns apart from occasionally when I do it on a tool so I don't really have an online option to tell them to go away which is normally the advice I've seen online elsewhere. I know I will need to complete 22/23 so we can confirm the CGT payments but is it worth writing something separate in the "any other information" section or should it be a separate letter. Do I need to revert to the pain of trying to call them?

Any advice welcome.

Not dissimilar position in the past. Called them. Was a breeze and they agreed I didn’t need to do one. We agreed I’d need to register again on my return to UK. Did so. That was that.

Same, no longer required once I changed to a job that came with company car rather than opt-out. Called them to remove the allowance for business use of private vehicle that had been included following the previous years return and they agreed SA not needed either.
