Hi not sure anyone can help.

Lady friend has small business and occasionaly takes payment by card - sometimes £0 per month, sometimes £500 to perhaps £1000

She currently uses a Spire SPc50 terminal which costs approx £20 per month. She is out of contract but Spire are pressuring her to enter into a new contact.

Are there any more cost effective ways of taking card payments ?

I've heard good things about SumUp - no relationship but worth a look as they have many different options.

Another vote for SumUp. A family member is a PC Engineer and he takes it out and about with him for customers. he said the whole purchase and setup was painless.

SumUp is fine for simple taking of payments, but if you need any sort of reporting on products that have been sold, or reconciling online purchases with products, it’s utterly hopeless.

Based on what the OP said (small business, occasionally takes payment by card) I get the impression that neither of those will be an issue.
