This is the answer. Just check this periodically and decide if the hassle is worth the move (it’s minimal hassle in my experience).

One of savings accounts is for all of my direct debits, and I leave enough in there to cover everything for 6 months.
This in turn allows me to run a much smaller balance on my current account because it only needs what I'm spending that day.

anyone with chip? moneysaver site suggests some strange ways to withdraw money etc?
dont want to put 1000s in there then have to jump through impossible hoops to take some out
Been with them a few months now. I've moved some money around waiting for the new tax year to put into ISAs. Interest is shown daily, so I know what I'll have at the end of the month and I've had no bother drawing it (or some larger sums back out). dont want to put 1000s in there then have to jump through impossible hoops to take some out
It's a slightly odd way of working as you kind of 'pull' the money from your current account when you want to make a deposit, then have to confirm it on your banking App. You link your current account to it, so transfers out go directly to it in a matter of minutes last time I did it. I can basically treat it like an extension to my current account.
I have heard some people struggle to get it to accept deposits from some banks, but I do know that HSBC, Virgin, Nat West and First Direct seem to work OK with them from talking to other people. I know there were some on here who were a bit suspicious of them, but they have FSCS protection and mine/my wife's experience with them has been positive. They haven't put the rate up since the last BoE rise (yet), but it's still the best easy access account I'm aware of.
Timely thread as I have some money in the bank earning sod all but it's my emergency fund so I want it reasonably easily reachable.
I was thinking of splitting it between two of Shawbrook/Aldermore/Investec simply because they seem to be reputable and to me that's worth it rather than chasing every last couple of bps in interest.

I'm with Chip, it's easy to withdraw.
The app has money back in my current account almost immediately.
The only quirk is when adding money. It must be done from the app, and not sent from your current account or it is returned.
I guess Martin Lewis says it isn't straight forward, as you need to be comfortable with online/app banking and some of his readers won't be.
