Tesco Bank Savings Data breach
Discussion
Anyone else had an e-mail from Tesco Bank saying their outsourced printers have been hacked and there has been a data breach.
We had a joint account-recently closed and other half received an e-mail, I've not received any communications yet.
Basically they are saying sign up to Experian with a link and code for a free 12 month subscription.
"What happens now?
As you’ve been affected by our supplier’s data breach, you could be at risk of attempted fraud. Protecting your money from all forms of fraud is important to us. So, we’re offering you a free 12-month Identity Plus subscription, provided by Experian. This service helps detect possible misuse of your personal data and provides you with identity monitoring support, to give you extra protection against potential fraudsters applying for credit in your name.

Can't find anything on Tesco Bank website or online anywhere-smells like a scam or is it?.

I got something similar from a pension provider.

Had the same from an ex employer saying the payroll provider Zellis was hacked, they offered 2 years identity theft plus.
Apparently they have my address, NI numbers, ex work email, DOB, Start and end date of employment.
Feel a bit uncomfortable with it really, what if multiple attempts are made to get finance and has a negative impact on me

UK companies seem to be following the same format as US companies now.
"We're sorry we allowed your data to be stolen, but never mind heres a free code for a monitoring service".
No punishment, no penalties for the company involved.
The amount of data breaches being reported on an daily basis, we may as well just put all of our private information out there is the wild anyway...

I've only now had a letter from my pension provider confirming my details were exfiltrated (in the breach referenced further up) which is quite some time after the breach occurred (March 2023).
Have signed up for the Experian plus offer and no dodgy credit searches have taken place, so far.
It appears the company involved stored the data unencrypted, not password protected and not segregated. Fairly big error on their part!
