paying 9k euros into a uk bank
Discussion
a relative passed away who liked to travel around europe with lots of cash, long story short I've ended up with 9,000 euros in cash
I'm not sure how to actually get it in my bank, I looked at the post office rates in order to exchange it into gbp but it looked like they were taking a huge chunk off!

For smaller amounts I've found my bank is happy to just let you pay them in at the normal counter.
Perhaps it is worth using a site like Tv's MoneyEarningExpert where you can compare rates (and for 9-grand the postage will be probably be inconsequential) => https://travelmoney.moneysavingexpert.com/ (Just did a quick search and the top result gives you £500 more than Thomas Cook for example)

had a look at a couple of places that do fairly competitive exchanges (would cost me £140 roughly at some) but I really dislike the idea of sending that much money by post to some company
Some of them have physical counters in various cities as an option - check their websites for local branches.I’ve used these guys last year to change some cash when I sold my Boxster to a German chap

Rates were so much better than I could get locally it was worth getting a train to London. Currently offering £1/€1.184 for buy back
