A month in to a new small business, majority of clients are happy to pay by BACS but some unable / want to pay by card.

Transactions will either be £350 or £620, payments will be mostly over the phone but some in person at the clients home.

Would expect perhaps 4 card transactions per month, probably 3 x £620 and 1 x £350, perhaps doubling over the next couple of years.

Current business account is with Starling, no complaints but happy to change.

Sumup, square, izettle , any thoughts / ones to avoid?

Thanks

Thanks, I certainly think that is the future, I can't see why all forward thinking business banks don't already offer the service themselves.

The client that sparked this doen't even have an email address, I doubt she even knows what a QR code is...

I've been using iZettle for the last couple of years and it syncs well with my Starling account for deposits. Transaction fees are there or thereabouts with the other offerings but if I recall it can be quite expensive for remote transactions (ie over the phone) - never been bothered to shop around and change because of the hassle of undoing all the background integration with Starling/Xero, as I say there is not much difference between them all. Experience with iZettle has been good for methumbup

Doesn't have to be a QR code, you can also wattsapp a link and it will open their banking app, but then people say they don't trust links so your often stuck paying the higher fees using card machines.

I think it's safe to say that she doesn't use Whatsapp either! But I agree it is how it should be, a simple link / QR / whatever and then minimal input from the client to complete the transaction...

I have a sum up reader which works well. If you’re only needing it for a few transactions just pick the one with the lowest fee.

Mrs ZS uses iZettle and she seems pretty happy with it.

Any thoughts on Revolut? 0.8% vs 1.75% for Zettle

Another iZettle here, my wife uses it for her business and connects to her iPhone easily when she is out and about.

My wife uses SumUp and is quite happy with it - more and smaller transactions than you are talking about, although the net per month is similar.

Another one who's other half uses Sumup, connected via hotspot through her phone when she's out doing her thing

Much cheaper than her old Barclays machine, and seems to connect much better as well

I've been using Verifone for about a year. The card reader is much better than my previous Sum up. Fees are 1% plus 1p for each transaction.
