Anyone heard of or had any dealings with the above?

I have received a text & email saying that they have received a tax refund for me from HMRC - the refund is, they day, due from my PPI refund.

They want NI number, home address etc to confirm my details.

I haven't replied as yet as I'm not sure of its genuine or a scam.

Amy help much appreciated. TIA.

If you have had no dealings with them in the past, how would they have a tax refund for you?

Oh yes, I know them.

They are very nice people from Nigeria.
It was kind of them to inform me about a package with my name on, awaiting collection at a New York airport.
The package contained $5 billion cash.

I provided my details, but apart from my bank account being looted, I have not heard from them since.

smile

HMRC employees are all 'working' from home now and therefore no work is being done. Tell your contacts they need to change their story, because otherwise no one will believe them.

A quick search suggests that this company is well known for its tax rebates. Not necessarily in a good way...

OP, did you make a PPI claim? If so, which company did you use? Apparently some of them passed on claimants' details to Brooksdale (legitimately, it was in the terms that claimants agreed to).

You might have inadvertently made Brooksdale your tax agent. From the posts in this link, you should contact HMRC: https://community.hmrc.gov.uk/customerforums/sa/33...

Fairly certain it was a scam although having had a PPI refund I didn't know know if they were affiliated to the company I used for PPI.

Email deleted.

Sarcasm, as usual on PH, didn't take long!!!!

Despite my earlier scepticism, they do appear to be a legitimate business -accounts filed at Companies House. Although also appear to be in the scam territory taking 48% of the refund using forged signatures on HMRC authorisations.

Suggest you contact HMRC to see if they have indeed paid a refund due to you to them.

Update on these delightful people.

Received a letter from HMRC saying that I was due a tax refund of £180 due to overpaid tax.

The refund was, without my knowledge, sent direct to Brooksdale!!

Asked HMRC why this happened & why were they involved & was told that Brooksdale are 'acting' for many people hence the refund was sent direct too them.

HMRC were not very helpful or forthcoming simply saying that it wasn't their problem.

So I called Brooksdale who refused to speak to me because I cannot answer the security questions.

Which I can't because I have never dealt with so I havent set up an account.

So what next?

Not a huge amount however it would pay my latest speeding fine!!!

Ask your MP to sort it out with HMRC.

Did you ever use them for PPI as they appear to have used that authority for some to make a claim?

Some useful info here:

https://community.hmrc.gov.uk/customerforums/sa/33...

Get the evidence and then look at your next move.

If you contact HMRC they will provide you with the document that you authorised, probably as part of your PPI claim, that states the company are your tax advisors. You need to get this removed from your record.
