Hi all

Ive got a tiny pension from an old job 20 odd years ago come into force. annual payment less than £1000.
Anyway as part of sending off to get them to start paying it, theres a form titled as above. Lump Sum death Grant - Expression of wish.
I've no wife, no kids, Dont get on that well with siblings so can I just not have an expression of wish? Or set it to the RSPB or something?

Wondered if anyone knew?

Thanks all

If you don't have an EOW then the Trustees will decide who gets any money owed by the Pension Scheme. They will be guided (but not bound) by what's in your Will. If you don't have a Will then they (the Pension Scheme) will keep it.

By the way I didn't think you still got the death grant once you start claiming the pension?

Looking at it again yes you could be right, "this applies while you are in pensionable employment or as a deferred member" (thats me)

As I want it to start paying asap I guess I can just ignore it.

Yep. As I said if you don't make a nomination the Trustees would decide on your behalf (assuming you die before it starts paying out).

Just to mention one thing (assuming it's a DB scheme). Some schemes guarantee a minimum number of years payment (ie if you get one month's pension and then die they carry on paying for at least 3 or 5 years). In short even though you won't get the Death Grant there will still be residual payments that you might want to give to a charity or something

You are thinking of DC schemes, DB don't work in that way.

I'm thinking of DB schemes. It applies to the one I'm currently in and i think it also applies to LGPS.

This is an LGPS scheme funnily enough. Started and finished before 2006.

Ive tried to ring em and ask, hold music ad infinitum. Tried emailing and got an automated reply. Wonderful.

I've just checked and I think we might have been calling different things by different names.

What i was calling the "Minimum pension payments post retirement" the LGPS calls "Death Grant". I thought the death grant was the "death in service"
