So, I have a query which is a tad unusual if anyone may be able to advise?

Long story short; a person owes me money. I have reason to believe that this person is not going to pay it.

The complicating factor is that this person has told me that she is leaving the country in February to go to work abroad - an EU country.

The additional complicating factor is that the money owed does not actually become due until September 2025 as we have a written agreement to that effect.

If this person leaves the country then chasing it, legally, becomes a lot more complicated.

Is there any procedure which can be used in order to ensure that this person cannot just disappear without paying? I'm not aware that there is any way to maybe "register" the debt against the person's name or get some sort of order for payment by or on the due date or anything? I'm not in any way attempting to force early payment of the debt, just trying to make sure that it's actually paid.

Perhaps that doesn't make a lot of sense and I very much doubt there's anything I can do in advance of the due date but any advice is more than welcome.

Sounds like the money isn’t owed yet.

Won’t help but the time to think about this is when you are providing the loan whenyou should have asked for some security - e.g charge against their home etc.
