So I certainly feel like I'm currently taxed to death, I am in the wonderful 60-65% bracket and get to see how much gets handed over each month, and its starting to feel a bit sickening to see that

Governments and Councils are properly in the red, the NHS is in bits, services cut to the bone.

Then, the fraud you only have to scratch the surface of the PPE fraud to see we're all being done over too.

Where is all the money going? I can burn tenners myself quite happily, which seems to be what's happening.

Debt. The Government is spending more to service debt and tax revenue is struggling to meet that, let alone pay for great new infrastructure.

They try to borrow their way through problems and then...it catches up with them.

Highest tax burden since the aftermath of WW2.

Good news, CGT allowances halving next year to £3k.

Personal savings allowance no more than £1k, £500 for higher rate tax payers.

National Insurance was increased to 12% to fix the NHS, now that the NHS is fixed it's back down to 10%. Lucky us.

But don't worry, we're growing the economy!

Led by donkeys.

For me it’s the fact there seem to be more and more people taking out of the pot. And less people putting in.

Whether this is good bad or indifferent I dunno

1. We spend more then we take in tax each year, so have to borrow just to maintain the status quo

2. We do the same year in year out, creating a large debt pile that never gets paid off (that's something for our children and grandchildren to worry about)

3. We spend ever more each year just paying interest on the debt.

You can just look up how taxes are spent, there's a decent OBR summary here https://obr.uk/forecasts-in-depth/brief-guides-and...

Looks a bit like this:

Big ticket items are broadly ill people, old people, poor people, education and debt interest.

change to funding rules meant councils were allowed to invest their income rather than ringfence it for spending.

Most councils thought they were Warren Buffet, and found out they werentr hence there are so many on verge of bankruptcy. Central gov were idiots for changing the rules. Local gov were idiots for investing the way they did.

alas its not their own cash so no consequences for them

Am I right in thinking looking at that chart, the biggest ticket item is "Other Spending"

I feel exactly the same way.

I’m sick of being told we have to do more with less, but for some reason my tax bill has just jumped up. Will I get more for this? Nope. Instead my services are getting cut and if I want all my bins emptied? That’ll be extra sir. No of course council tax isn’t going up, you’re just getting less for it unless you agree to pay more then you can maintain your current level of service.

Income tax? Welcome to our shiny new band.

Then the kicker.… in a very quiet voice “we’re increasing your pension age again”.

Genuinely getting sick of being taken for a mug.

Need to tax the big boys like Amazon properly

When I walk my daughter to school, she’s 4 and it’s about a mile each way…. We have to play dodge the fat families in brand new cars bouncing along the pavement to get to their spot on the zig zags cus they are late - every morning. Non of them seem to work, all have decent family homes that a lot of people who work can only dream of

They never seem to have 1 or two kids, but usually 4 or 5

These kids are always the disruptive ones who don’t behave all day long and my littlun always tells me the teacher was out of the room for a lot of the time dealing with Kai and kayden (not joking)

If I had to bet on who would have 5 kids by the age of 30 it will be Kai or kayden without a job ever planned

Funnily enough I just looked at this

If you log into your government gateway account it’s an option to look at your last few years in summary

They list your income, tax & NI then break down how your deductions have apparently been spent,

I note looking at mine I myself contributed a few hundred on foreign Aid, which has actually made me feel less generous for the charitable giving this Christmas…

With councils
Per £5 £4 goes to Social care and 50p to bin collections.

We've stopped all our charitable giving since my Mrs (the charitable one in this equation) saw how much I pay in Tax, NI & Student Loan.

It's more than her net salary.

eta Now even more.

Bad news Scotland has just introduced a new higher tax band at only £75k

On a tangent : I had a thought. A working couple could be far better off with respect to tax than a couple with only one earner.

the av wage in Scotland is circa £33k. Let’s say you are a couple and both earn £35k so the household income is around £70k. So average income.

Now take a couple living in a house but only one earns but earns 70k. Same household income. But they attract around 11% more tax, so as a couple are 8k a year worse off.

That’s just a ridiculous difference for same household spending power.

And yes, I often wonder where the government / councils tax money is spent.
