Person in question is looking for a safe haven for a lump sum, is totally unwilling to accept risk (of Equities etc) so it's likely to be a deposit account or bond over a period of time.
I can argue the case for equities/funds etc until I'm blue in the face but without success.
Thanks

How safe does it need to be? Literally zero risk of loss of principal?

How long for?

Tbh I’d just whack it into whatever the highest fixed rate saver is currently for a year or two, assuming that timescale works. Simple.

Tandem Bank is pretty good - I have cash there at 5.5%. They're currently offering 4.5%.

Various products available depending if you want easy access or can put it away a bit longer. There may be tax to pay on the interest depending on the circumstances so I’d look at a cash ISA if that impacts you. Premium bonds are often mentioned on these pages which could also be an idea!

Thanks, that HL list is useful to them although doubt they've heard of many of those banks
Has some Premium Bonds already I believe.

As an aside, I have some in a Sainsbury's instant access and the rate is nothing like those offered. Need to get myself sorted.

Might be worth them looking at RCI Bank website.
Plenty of options in terms of instant ,notice and fixed rate for various terms so able to mix and match too.
Maybe not the highest rates currently available but in terms of ease of dealing etc I have been a customer for a number of years and they have been absolutely seamless to deal with.

He is totally unwilling to take on any risk.

So he is going to bet long term on HMG

I mis gendered sorrysmile

She is unwilling to delve into the unknown. Understandable.
You just have to do the best you can. You could ladder some CDs and then when the inflation picture changes and rates drop find a gilt fund to get a little appreciation. Not easy when things get priced in early and of course the sales load on UK funds has to be taken into consideration( I'm a Brit in the US)
You could buy gilts direct if you feel confident
