My daughter has a rental property and needs to know where to put her basic rate mortgage interest claim in her SA tax return now you no longer claim it as a deduction from rental income.
I’ve not had the same issue myself so don’t know what to tell her. Does anyone know, please?

From memory it’s now an orphan box right at the end of the residential property section.

Thanks, is that not for a Ltd Co as landlord?

No, it’s in the UK Property section in self-assessment

Assuming it’s a straight rental not a furnished holiday let, then she can ignore boxes 5-19 (I happen to have my wife’s 2022/23 SA tax return form to hand!)

Yes it is just straight unfurnished letting. Ok that’s good, I’ll suggest she tries that and see what the calculation does with it wink

It will show it towards end of calculation as a separate line item: 'minus relief for finance costs' with a figure equal to 20% of your box 44 figure, which is then subtracted from tax due

Thank you, that’s very helpful, I like a bit of specific information. I have passed this on and will await a resultant her end.
