Did you know there is now a government portal for accessing Power of Attorney? What a good idea. It saves having to post the original document each time!

All you have to do is log in and get an access code which you then email to whoever needs proof of POA, banks, social services, etc.

I have this for my aged aunt and it's been brilliant, except for the solicitors dealing with the sale of her house (she is now in a care home). They still want to see the original POA, despite me giving them help on how to access it online. What a bunch of idiots!

Talk about not moving with the times.

It is good but not every provider appears to want to use it.
NS&I refused to use it for the relative I held LPA for when I was trying to trace some investments for her.
Had to send them a certified hard copy instead.
