Hi,

I'm going to be starting a new role soon which will involve regular rail (possibly flights as well), Hotels, Meals, etc. I don't currently have a credit card but will want one for this and wondered what credit cards people would recommend for this? Obviously 0% on purchases cards are readily available, but are there any other benefits specific credit cards offer that I should consider like points on travel/hotels/etc?

Suspect there are others on here that reguarly travel, etc for work so wanted to see what people reccommend please?

Thanks

Would one of the cards that give Avios be a good idea if its just for travel and hotels?

Amex is good for cashback. I've a Barclaycard at 0.5% for the same. Tesco for clubcard points. Chase for 1% cashback on current account spending.

We've run the Amex BA card for a couple of years - once you get the points and companion flight, the opportunity to spend points comes down.

Now switched to Amex cash back, and hopefully the money back will replace the (limited) savings on Avios flights.

The other suggestion is the JLP card - good points and JLP vouchers.

I would disagree with a Tesco CC for clubcard points, the reward system on it is shall we say...rubbish, you only get 1 point for every £8 spent outside of Tesco

Is the Amex cashback on any purchases? Seems quite a lot of choice of cards from Amex. Some with a charge and some without...

Yes, cashback on all spends, even on PayPal. We have the platinum credit cards. You'll have to do a breakeven calculation on whether to pay an annual fee against a fee free one which has a lower tiered cashback rate. It used to be the case that if spend > £10k then its worth paying the £25 fee.
