credit card fraud again
Discussion
A few years ago (5-6 years), I got a text off Barclaycard asking me to reply Y or N as to whether I had been using my card in USA, I hadn't so replied N, I then called them to find out a few transactions had been declined in USA, they sorted it all out and sent me a new card. I've had about 6 cards since then.
2 years ago I logged in to view my statement as it seemed high to find out somebody had been shopping at ASDA online 2-3 times a week for £100-150 a time, reported as fraud to Barclaycard and they sorted it out again. At the time there was a lot of suspicion about a local BP petrol station quite a few local people reporting cloned cards after using this petrol station, it was reported to police etc nothing ever came of it.
3 weeks ago I got a letter from Barclaycard saying they were changing my card as a precaution, started using the new card last week all was good until last night, it wouldn't work on Amazon, Tesco or Google Play, logged into Barclays to find he card missing in the list of accounts. So called the fraud team.
Since yesterday they have had 6 attempts to add my card to Apple Wallet in USA, I'm an Android user, card has been used in California and Texas to make purchases , I'm guessing either by contactless up to the limit or do you not have to input pins in USA?
Just a bit miffed how the details have been skimmed within a week of using the card, I've only really used it on Amazon, Tesco online and used it in person at a few fuel stations but pay at the pump type. Its not really been anywhere else.
Guessing this is going to become the norm more and more often.

You are really unlucky or there is something else going on here.
I've had one instance in my life of that kind of thing - cards replaced etc. I really can't remember too many instances of friends complaining about it happening to them either.
3 time in such a short space of time is definitely not a normal experience.

I mentioned on another thread that I had massive issues with Barclaycard, ended up with me having to collect from the branch in Milton Keynes, checked before I signed for it and there was already pending transactions,
Unless you really need a Barclaycard can you switch to another and see if things improve?

Have you ran a full virus check on your pc?
I only ever use a pre paid credit card online now to prevent this sort of thing
Linux user, no windows machines in our house (apart from my work one but I dont buy stuff on that). I only ever use a pre paid credit card online now to prevent this sort of thing
Thinking back, I went to London a few days after I got the card, used it contactless on the underground, bought a meal deal in Sainsburys next to Euston, I have a metal wallet but dont think its anti rfid might "upgrade" to one.
I’ve always kept a few cards on the go and had one, a Goldfish card, cloned three times. I stopped using it after the third time and, touch wood, have never had a problem with any other card.
Rumour at the time was that they were inside jobs. Was interesting that Goldfish staff did a good job of not appearing to give a toss. They were owned by Barclaycard for a while but don’t recall if that was the case when I was using them.

That's impressive. I remember my parents had transactions pending before their new card had even arrived in the post. This was RBS but don't think any of us knew that collecting from a branch was an option. Unless you really need a Barclaycard can you switch to another and see if things improve?
Only time my credit card as had an attempted frags on it was after I signed up with Lyca mobile.
Common problem with them

Try to always use Google Pay or Apple Pay. Don’t use the physical card. This is a lot more secure as it never exposes your real card details.
Also, what make and model are your phones? Are they patched?
Is your Linux distro fully upto date?
Also beware of websites you store your card details in. It could be hackers have access to say your gyms database, as soon as you pay for your membership with the new card the hackers have your details again.

The person in the branch confirmed on their system that the card hadnt been collected after 14 days so was destroyed by the branch, never had an issue with any other cards
Systems are all up to date, Debian latest release and Pixel 6 with Android 14 latest update.
Brave browser also latest release.
Unfortunately Barclaycard doesn't support Google Pay, Barclays themselves have only just started supporting it.
I do have a Lyca e-sim
but that was purchased on the old credit card number that they replaced as a "precaution" not the new one that has been compromised.

I suspect it is a small company I have paid for something with but at the moment I cant think which website etc. Apart from Tesco, Amazon, contactless on London Underground, contactless at Petrol Station pay at pump I cant think of any other places it has been used recently. Petrol station would be my suspicion.

The one time my card was cloned was after a visit to a local petrol station.
