Perhaps £150 for the pair?
When I was clearing up my late father's stuff I emptied his desk into a cardboard box to 'deal with later'..... I came across said box a couple of years after dad had died and was about to bin the lot but a passbook from the Stafford Railway Building Society caught my eye, a single phone call established that the account was still existing and all I needed to do was to send in the book and a copy of dad's death certificate, almost by return came a cheque for a little over £13k, happy days!
Further down the box was a Scarbough BS passbook, they were a little more difficult, I had to attend the nearest branch twice before they coughed up. but a further cheque for almost £9k was most welcome.

I found my old Post Office account books last year - blue ‘ordinary account’ and grey ‘investment account’ ones. They hadn’t been touched since around 1997, but sadly with only a fairly small amount in each they weren’t worth a lot even with over 25 years of interest to add on. Maybe £300 in total. A bit of spending money for holiday, and better than a poke in the eye!
The last entry in the investment account book was me withdrawing £2500 for my first car.

I still have my Norwich and Peterborough childhood paying in book. I found it a few years ago. Had £3ish in it from the last line.
I enquired about the account I remember and had an email telling me to post the book off (presumably to the only office left in their network that had the machine to read and print the books) and they could tell me. The book would be destroyed though...
I didn't send it, I'd rather keep the book and be reminded of being 12/13 and using the bank for the first time... Worth more to me than the fiver that may or may not be there
