I know I will need a largish chunk of Euros early next year.
Is it a good time to buy and hold?

Crystal ball time, I thought 1.19 was good, my balls not working properly, it's an age thing...

Buy half of what you need now and wait until you need the rest.

If the rate becomes more favourable to the pound, at least you'll get the other half at the better rate.
If the rate becomes less favourable to the pound, at least you'll have managed to buy the first half the amount at a better rate.

I live in Spain and I'm always checking the rates. It's a decent rate now, I transferred a decent wedge over today, and got €1.1939.

Is whatever happened in 2016 going to reverse?
Will we ever see 1.4 again, I think not.
Unless you are changing £10,000 or some mega amount, its only going to be a few pounds to you now and in the future.
When we got down to 1.02 and similar, I must admit that felt painful

The difference between now, 3 months ago and 3 months time is going to be pretty insignificant then.

Suggest you buy £10k now and keep looking at the rate, if it moves in your favour buy more, moves the other way sit tight!

Really, the £ to euro is fairly stable, but it can help to take advantage of highs and lows.
