Has anyone got any experience- knowledge of the “ work related second home council tax exception “
I’ve read through and I’m pretty sure I know the answer as it does state that “ if your employer supplies you with a second home “ it can be exempt from the 100% loading of council tax on second homes , I’m just wondering if anyone has successfully argued the case of actually buying your own second home specifically for staying in whilst working in an area different to your home address?
Short story is it’ll make more sense for us to buy a second house near to my wife’s new employer for her to use when she’s over there , it’s presently a 3 - 4 hour round trip all in traffic everyday but can quite easily stretch to longer , especially in the darker months .
I realise it sounds a bit extreme but we’ve lived in hotels to many times over the years .

I thought the rules varied across the different councils which aligns with what's mentioned in the link below. Worth checking the rules with the council you are looking at.

Form from our council is here: https://www.herefordshire.gov.uk/downloads/file/18...

I think you're out of luck on this.

Please enclose a copy of the relevant parts of any employment contract or agreement that confirms the provision of the property to you or
your spouse/civil partner and the requirement to occupy it."

There’s a new app that can help you with such questions, it’s called “Ask Ange”.

That’s what I’m thinking , she did negotiate an allowance to supposedly cover a rental property but it’s paid on top of her salary and hence taxed so we’d be hard pressed to rent to be honest .
It’s annoying to say the least , I’ll take the increase in stamp duty on the chin but then the council decides to double the council tax for a house that will be lived in 4 nights a week .
I suppose there’s always an “ange “ angle !

Why don’t you separate and buy the property as settlement, who’s to say you won’t get back together one day?

It had never crossed my mind !!!
I’ll change my log in name to “ doing an Angela “
To be fair , the government and the local council are taking the piss , I could follow their example ?
They’re putting another car on the road for over 4 hours a day and denying the local economy of someone living there by pricing them out through the inflated charges .
I doubt that argument would have much impact when dealing with a “computer says no “ person who isn’t allowed to make decisions.
I’m not even sure it’s worth opening the can of worms with the local council just in case I decide to follow their example .
