Anyone had to claim off a State Escheator in the US ? I had some financial assets in an account over there, and I got a letter yesterday saying if I hadnt logged into account by 12th Dec it would go to State Escheator, they sent letter from US but I only got it yesterday and when I logged in it had gone so it looks like it has already gone to the Escheator. Chatgbt said if I knew the state I could go to missingmoney.com look up by name and I should find it and can then claim it, I couldnt find anything under my name, is there usually along delays between being going to Escheator and it appearing ? Feels like its going to be royal PITA to get it back. I'm annoyed as they sent me 1 letter to inform me this was going happen and it didnt even arrive in time.

I went through this recently. Lost track of a US investment (some shares) as we moved house a few times. A few years later I contacted the original brokers who told me it had gone to the state Escheator in Delaware.

The process was to get the assets was quite complicated. I managed to track the holding down via my name and last known address which the investment firm had held. Then I had to prove identity, share proof of owning the holding and and my address audit trail…. After a few months I managed to get the funds via cheque and snail mail.

How long is it before last log-in and when the US State swipes it?

It's an open opportunity for Rachel to grab some money, gradually shortening the time period to a week and hoping nobody notices...

And what if you can't log in, through age, disability etc?
