Life is truly a struggle for that Telegraph reader. https://archive.ph/aeg0V
The £1.12m is “just” the SIPP, They appear to have total assets exceeding £3m.
Their relatives might be somewhat disappointed at the size of the IHT bill

If I were him at 80 I'd cash it in and have fun.
Personally I would have retired at 60 and enjoyed myself over the last 20 years. You are a long time dead.My partners father is the same, he worked until 72 and had millions in pensions and property. He is now 76, doesn't spend a penny if he doesn't have to and drives a 15 year old battered up car.
Seriously what is the point in hoarding it all until you die.
This person is 80, what do they seriously think they need all that money for?

However people who’ve been frugal their entire life seem to struggle to switch to spend mode hence the keeping up the accumulating drive.

I got a Telegraph sub for £25 because they do have some decent articles but also some bats
t ones.
I don't know if they run pieces like that to wind people up or if those are genuine "struggles" their readership think they face.
I often read letters/questions in the Money section where you just think "you've won enjoy your life".
