Over the weekend I went to the Eden project in cornwall, I paid £32 for two tickets and was asked if I wanted to put the tickets down as Gift Aid, When I asked if this entailed me doing any further paperwork/payment in the future i was told by the entry girl that I would not have to pay anything more, I gave my address and email and recieved a large receipt for my Gift aid donation.
Once I got home I read the back of the receipt and It states I need to :

"pay an amount of income tax and/or capital gains tax this year (6th april one year to 5th april the next) that is at least equal to the tax that the eden trust will reclaims on your donation (currently 25p plus an additional 3p from the govt on every 1 pound you give until 5th april 2011) for that tax year."

Do I need to do anything else ? I am employed and pay tax and am not sure If I need to pay the tax office some money or if its all automatic. never come across this Gift Aid before.

Your deed is done - nothing else to worry about.

Or is there. Why did they ask for your email address. All they needed was you name and address - not your email. No doubt you will now start to receive emails, unless they had an opt out question.

I went to the Eden project too, the gift aid was a dream compared to Chester Zoo where we went earlier in the year.

After agreeing to pay by gift aid (hassled into it) I was told there would be a £5 charge!!! I soon told them where to go!!

Chester employ an army of students pressuring everyone in artifical queues to pay the extra!!

Excellent, Thank you all very much for the answers, I am so used to things not being as simple as they are supposed to be that I expect aggro from anything involving tax !

thanks again.

I've noticed this over the past couple of years too. Anyone know why all of a sudden places are charging more if you want to pay by Gift Aid?

It strikes me as madness! I'm quite happy to pay via GA so they can recover the extra 28% (or whatever it is) but I'm certainly not going to pay more just so they can do so! That strikes me as wholly self-defeating and just means that more people will not use GA.

Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.....
