When I moved out of my house last year it took 6 months to rent it out.

Can I reclaim any of the expenses incurred before it was rented?

I'm thinking mainly of buildings insurance and maybe mortgage interest.

(It's probably a stupid question but you never know if you don't ask.)

I'm also in this situation (although only 3 months empty), I put it on the market 4 weeks before I moved out.

You should be able to reclaim costs incurred from that point onwards as the flat was available for renting from that date.

Also as the property was empty you should have told the council which would mean no council tax due until people in the property OR 6 months then you can pay at a reduced rate 25% off again until someone is in the house.
