I am currently in the process of repaying a substantial Barclaycard bill, ran up by an ex partner of mine.

Using my online facility, i note that it is possible to reduce your own credit limit, as the balance is paid off. Is this a good idea in terms of how it affects your credit rating? I will keep a credit limit available on the card once paid in full, but nothing like it was in the past (and definitley no other card holders on the account!).

I have done that on their website too.

Makes sense to me, lowers my exposure in the yes of lenders, and also stops me or anyone else being stupid.

Cutting your limit is a good thing as it'll lower your total available credit and if you apply for other finance this can/will be taken into account.
