My OH and I are planning on getting a joint mortgage through the bank she works for. The mortgage is a 'staff mortgage' (interest rate = BoE base rate + 0% tracker) and as such is subject to benefit tax.

My query is since this is a joint mortgage, is the benefit tax based on only her salary, or both of our salaries?

Thanks

I think the best person to ask is your OH's HR/benefits department

My wife works in bakning and also receives a colleague mortgage rate on our joint mortgage, which tracks the BOE rate. She pays extra income tax on the BIK but my tax code remains unaffected.

Her employer is providing the benefit so she pays the tax.
