Am I right in thinking that if I wanted to buy a three bedroom house as my only residence with a view to renting out the other two bedrooms, this would not help me in securing a sufficiently large mortgage to pay for the house?

Or has anybody been able to do this? I'm sure I heard of a few people I know dong it but that was a few years ago and I'm not sure if it 's still possible or not.

Don't know if they won't like it, but they definitely won't lend you more money on the basis of potential income from rent.

As far as I am aware, potential tax-free income from the lodger scheme would not yet count as income on which to base a mortgage application. It would however with any subsequent remortgaging.
