I recently moved into a new house, and there is some residue on the PVC windows left behind from the plastic covers being taken off.

Anyone have any tips to remove this residue? I've tried a scourer and some washing up liquid but the residue seems quite stubborn.

White spirit or acetone should do it

Any chance of those causing some damage?

Haven't tried it but I suspect acetone might attack the window frame. I find almost all adhesive residues are shifted by either white spirit or meths. If one doesn't do it, the other will.

I once used a rag soaked in white spirit to remove duct tape residue from one of my cars, worked brilliantly and no ill effect on it.

Can't imagine it would damage your windows.

Try nail polish remover if its just a little bit. Seems to work well getting sticky tape marks off various surfaces. I think it has acitone (sp) in it.

If it's a new house, just get the developer back to sort it.
