Having an extension built very soon and we are after some bi-folding doors to go in. Opening is 2300mm wide so after 3 panel Bi-folding doors. Want to go for aluminium as we have been told UPVC cause no end of trouble very quickly due to the weight.

Anyone able to offer recommendations from experience?

Been quoted 3800 so far fitted.

Cheers

our 3500mm bi-folds have been in a year now, no problems (yet). They are 3+1 uPVC outward opening. Cost £2050 fitted including vat. Which was worryingly cheap.

Would (and do) recommend them to anyone.[url]

There is a thread about this somewhere. We've gone cheap, and used folding sliding doors (DIY) from Bradfut - they're ok, not in the same league as ze germans, but then the prices aren't either. Ally is recommended - I've heard about upvc probs too - although if they're heeled and toed correctly, there's no reason why they should cause trouble unless it's thermal expansion that makes 'em stick.
If you're building an extension from scratch, it's worth building an opening to suit the doors ie mis-measures from ebay or manufacturers standard size doors.
